Cuff BP readings miss the middle

Blood pressure cuff measurements are inaccurate in the middle range of hypertension, raising the possibility that some patients are slipping through diagnostic cracks, Australian-led research suggests.

Researchers from the University of Tasmania reviewed the results of more than 70 studies which measured the blood pressure of more than 3000 patients, and compared the ‘gold standard’ of invasive methods for aortic pressure against everyday clinic readings from a cuff BP device.
