CVD risk when insulin added to metformin

Insulin in combination with metformin increases the risk of cardiovascular events and death in patients with type 2 diabetes, new research confirms.

Patients who had insulin added to their metformin treatment had a 30% increased risk of AMI, stroke, and death compared with patients who received a sulfonylurea as add-on therapy, according to the eight-year study of more than 178,000 patients on metformin.
