Dairy consumption a leading factor in diet link to acne
US researchers said studies conducted in the 1960s that found diet and acne were unrelated were flawed – and mainly looked at chocolate. More recent research suggested while diet did not cause acne it could aggravate it.
An association had been found between dairy and acne, and was more consistent than research on high glycaemic load, fat or omega-3 fatty acids. The association may be due to hormones in milk, milk protein or the effect on insulin.
Diet therapy could have benefit as an adjunct treatment, the authors concluded.
