Debate on HRT for bone risk

A global consensus statement, released last week by international menopause societies, states that menopausal hormone therapy is “effective and appropriate” for preventing osteoporosis-related fractures in at-risk women before age 60 or within 10 years of menopause.

Osteoporosis Australia medical director Professor Peter Ebeling said he supported the recommendation, which would be discussed at the next scientific advisory committee meeting.

“The difference here is it is being recommended to
