Definition of ‘fully immunised’ expands

From 1 July, changes to the National Immunisation Program mean 18-month-olds will receive their varicella shot in the combination Priorix-Tetra (Glaxo-SmithKline) vaccine, which also includes booster measles, mumps and rubella antigens.

Authorities have warned the new MMRV vaccine should not be used at 12 months of age, or as the first dose of MMR due to an increased risk of febrile convulsions.

“MMR vaccine only should be used for 12-month-old babies or as the first dose if a child
