Delayed measles vaccine linked to higher seizure risk

Drawing on a US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention-sponsored vaccine safety database, researchers showed the relative risk of seizures in the seven to 10 days following immunisation with MMR or MMRV was doubled when the first dose was given at 16–23 months compared to 12–15 months of age.

Administration in older children led to an extra 9.5 seizure cases per 10,000 doses, compared to four per 10,000 doses in the younger age group.
