Denosumab declared safe in rheumatic arthritis
Rheumatic arthritis patients can safely take denosumab for osteoporosis, even if they combine it with biologics, US researchers report.
This is based on a study of 136 RA patients that found no increased risk of infection among patients taking denosumab. Of those in the study, 36 were on biologics plus denosumab, 50 on biologics alone and 50 on denosumab alone.
The biologics in the study included infliximab, tocilizumab, rituximab, abatacept, belimumab and adalimumab, according to a study presentation at an American College of Rheumatology conference.
