Denosumab sparks dental concern

Doctors should take care to warn patients who have been prescribed denosumab about the danger of dental surgery, say three Perth oral health specialists.

Even minor dental manipulation is a risk factor for denosumab-associated osteonecrosis of the jaws (DONJ), they write in the Australian Dental Journal.

“The importance of avoiding interventional dental treatment until denosumab has been withdrawn for six months cannot be overstated.”
