Dental tips for denosumab prescribers

Patients should be encouraged to undergo a full dental exam before starting treatment with denosumab, say oral surgeons concerned about the risk of osteonecrosis of the jaws (ONJ).

As an increasing number of patients receive the drug, the condition has the potential to become a comparable challenge to bisphosphonate-related osteonecrosis of the jaws (BRONJ), according to an article by Perth oral surgeon Dr Michael O'Halloran.

“Doctors must be made aware of conditions such as denosumab-related osteonecrosis of the jaws and BRONJ,” says
