Depression impacts heart disease outcomes

Experts from the AHA conducted a systematic review encompassing 53 studies and four meta-analyses.

The researchers concluded that although there was significant heterogeneity across studies in demographics and definition and measurement of depression, there was a consistent association between depression and adverse outcomes in ACS.

“The preponderance of evidence supports the conclusion that depression after ACS is a risk factor for all-cause and cardiac mortality, as well as for composite outcomes, including mortality or non-fatal cardiac
