Dermatologist claims Australian melanoma rates aren't dropping

A MELBOURNE dermatologist is challenging research suggesting that invasive melanoma rates are declining in Australia.

Dr Douglas Czarnecki says the study from QIMR Berghofer Medical Research Institute, Brisbane, skews the true picture because the calculations don’t account for the changing racial composition of the population.

The original report examined melanoma incidence between 1982 and 2011, finding the rate peaked at 49 cases
