Diabetes almost out of control, meeting hears

Dr Marjorie Cypress (PhD), ADA president overseeing health care and education, warned that with soaring rates of obesity, up to one-third of Americans could have diabetes by 2050.

Already more than one in five healthcare dollars goes to diabetes treatment, she said.

“Financially, diabetes is destroying us,” Dr Cypress said in the ADA Diabetes Dispatch publication.

She urged doctors to convey to patients the benefit to blood glucose of losing even a little weight, noting demands for major weight reduction contributed to stigma.
