Diabetes dismissed as a major health concern: study
The survey of 5000 adults aged 32–66, commissioned by Medicines Australia as part of its Australian Medicines Industry initiative, found only 2.2% believed weight gain could affect future health. Its report, Facing the Health of Australians, was published today.
Just 6.8% said diabetes was the condition that most concerned them, while 6.3% said it was the greatest health risk to their generation.
Associate Professor Sof Andrikopoulos, NHMRC senior research fellow at the University of Melbourne, said the failure to recognise the link between obesity and diabetes was quite concerning.
