Diabetes plus depression lifts MI risk

MIDDLE-AGED women with comorbid diabetes and depression need careful assessment, specialists say, after a study shows they are at a seven-fold higher risk of myocardial infarction (MI).

Study co-author Professor John Chalmers, senior director at the George Institute for Global Health, Sydney, says the findings suggest clinicians need to use a “fine-tooth comb” to assess cardiovascular risk factors in these patients.
