Diabetes raises stroke risk in younger adults
The study, in a population of 1.3 million, showed the increased risk was nearly three times higher in white people with diabetes aged over 65 compared to people without diabetes.
The risk for black people was also higher in younger adults, at fivefold increased risk for those under 65 compared to double the risk for the elderly.
The researchers said the excess risk conferred by diabetes was shifting over time with evidence of higher risk among whites compared to blacks.
