Diabetes stroke risk depends on gender

Type 2 diabetes has yet again been linked to stroke, but only in women, a study has shown.

The study of over 30,000 patients identified almost 3,000 incident cases of stroke over a seven year period.
Even though the overall incidence of stroke was higher among men than women there was no statistically significant link between a rise in HbA1c and risk of stroke in men.
But for women the story was different, with each 1% increase in baseline HbA1c associated with a 5% increased risk of stroke,
