Dial-a-coach effectiveness doubt

The Patient Encouragement and Coaching for Health (PEACH) trial randomised 473 patients with an HbA1c over 7.5% to eight telephone sessions and one face-to-face coaching session from practice nurses, or usual care.

There was no difference in HbA1c between the groups after 18 months, with the intervention group at 7.85% and the control group at 7.91%.

A quarter of patients in the intervention group achieved a BMI of less than 25, compared to 14% of people in the control group. However, there was no difference between overall weight and waist circumference
