Dientamoeba fragilis is a single-celled (protozoan) parasite of the gastrointestinal tract (GIT), typically found in the colon and caecum. It is related to trichomonads (e.g. Trichomonas vaginalis), but, unlike its relatives, D. fragilis lacks a flagellum. As a result, its movement is amoeboid in type.
