Evidence of a link between diet quality and the risk of depression is mounting 1 with research showing the impact of poor diet on long-term mental and physical health possibly starts as early as pregnancy2.

“Dietary intervention at an individual or population level may reduce rates of psychiatric disorders,” according to psychiatric epidemiologist Associate Professor Felice Jacka, from Deakin University, whose research has established an association between habitual diet quality and prevalence of mental disorders2.
