Dietary fibre reduces diabetes risk: experts

Its scientific statement is based on a review of 19 studies which consistently showed a reduced risk of type 2 diabetes of between 18% and 40% with high intakes of cereal fibre, and between 21% and 40% with mixtures of wholegrains and bran.

Similarly, cardiovascular risk was reduced with high intakes of cereal fibre or mixtures of wholegrains and bran, but the level of evidence for an effect of these fibres on lower risk of obesity was less convincing.
