The dilemma of dementia

When Professor Brian Draper was writing his book Dealing with Dementia 10 years ago, he asked his colleagues to predict the future of dementia research.

“So many people were confident that by now, we would be in a situation of having really effective treatments for dementia,” says the conjoint professor in the School of Psychiatry at the University of New South Wales and deputy director of the Dementia Collaborative Research Centres — Assessment and Better Care.

“But unfortunately that hasn’t come to pass...
