Doctors more concerned about male obesity: study

Among more than 1100 Danish GPs who responded to a questionnaire about their attitudes and practices for management of patients with overweight or obesity, weight loss among male patients was considered more important than among female patients.

Despite numerous studies associating higher relative morbidity with female compared to male obesity, the Danish doctors also tended to prescribe lipid-lowering medication more often to male patients compared to female patients. This was regardless of the sex of the doctor, although young female GPs and older male GPs favoured medication
