Drug users with abuse history a suicide risk

Canadian researchers found severe to extreme abuse to be a significant risk for future suicide attempts.

Drug users who reported emotional abuse were almost three times more likely, and those reporting sexual abuse were 2.8 times more likely, to attempt to take their own lives.

Physical abuse resulted in a 1.6 times higher risk of attempted suicide. Less severe abuse, and physical and emotional neglect, had no significant impact on risk.
