Early ACL injury boosts lifetime OA risk

An anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury sustained in youth significantly increases the risk of developing OA over lifetime, according to a US modelling study.

Over a third of people with an ACL injury and a concomitant meniscal tear will end up with knee OA during their lifetime, the researchers calculate, while those with an ACL injury but no meniscal tear have a 17% risk.
