Early warfarin resumption cuts patient mortality

In a US study of 442 patients, 260 (59%) resumed warfarin, including 41 who never stopped treatment. Median time to resumption was four days.

Of those resuming warfarin, one had a thrombotic event compared with 10 of 182 patients not resuming warfarin in the 90-day follow-up period.

There were 26 recurrent GI bleeds and 15 deaths in those resuming warfarin compared to 10 GI bleeds and 37 deaths in those who did not.
