Efficacy of antidepressants in fibromyalgia
A: Fibromyalgia syndrome is a common chronic condition. In addition to pain, patients have other problems, such as fatigue and poor sleep. Patients with fibromyalgia often have a reduced quality of life.
There have been several trials of antidepressant drugs as a treatment for fibromyalgia. A German group has now reviewed these studies.
From 337 citations, the group selected 34 studies. These were further reduced to 18 randomised placebo-controlled trials.
