Eight more orthopaedic implants flagged for investigation

THE TGA will conduct an investigation into the safety of eight orthopaedic implants identified as having higher-than-expected rates of revision.

Five hips, two shoulders and one ankle implant have been targeted for review based on data from the Australian Orthopaedic Association National Joint Replacement Registry’s (AOANJRR) annual review.

“The reports compare the performance of individual implants with all implants of that type and identify those that do not appear to be performing as well as the others, using the revision rate as a measure,” the TGA says in Medical Devices
