Elderly can recover cognition: study

A study has been carried out in German general practice to establish how many will go on to develop dementia.

The 357 people with MCI in the study had an average age of 80. The participants were classified according to whether their main limitation was memory or other cognitive problems. Interviews were repeated after 18 and 36 months.

Approximately 22% of the participants had declined into dementia.
