Elmo says, ‘eat more fruit’ – sticker sways kids’ eating habits

US researchers gave 208 children aged 8–11 a choice between an apple and a cookie for five days in a row. The researchers changed where they put the Elmo sticker daily and presented both items without a sticker on the first and last day of the trial.

They found that children were twice as likely to choose an apple if it had an Elmo sticker on it than they were if both apple and cookie were presented without a sticker.

There was no effect of the Elmo icon when placed on a cookie.
