Experts have recommended moving to a five-yearly primary HPV test with partial HPV genotyping and reflex liquid-based cytology (LBC), as well as raising the age of initiation from 18 to 25 years with an exit test at 74, among a raft of proposed changes to emerge from a comprehensive evidence review.

There is also a recommendation to offer self-testing in a clinical setting for the 30—40% of women who, for cultural or other reasons, avoid screening.
