Endocrinologist in bid to stop type 1 in its tracks

In her wildest dreams Professor Jenny Couper believes type 1 diabetes can be stopped in early childhood before the first signs appear.

“We are talking about primary prevention and not having to wait until the process has started,” says the paediatric endocrinologist from Adelaide University’s Robinson Research Institute and the Women's and Children's hospital.

To turn the dream into reality she needs to find out if something modifiable happens during pregnancy or early childhood that leads to the onset of the disease.
