Essure sterilisation device 'serious safety concern'

WOMEN who undergo hysteroscopic sterilisation are at 10 times greater risk of requiring reoperation than those having a laparoscopic procedure, a study shows.

US researchers have compared the safety and efficacy of the controversial Essure device (Bayer), used for hysteroscopic sterilisation, in more than 8000 women between 2005 and 2013, with more than 44,000 laparoscopic procedures performed during the same period in New York State.
