Eucalyptus treatment beats pesticide for head lice: trial

The study of MOOV, which contains eucalyptol, was carried out by Ego Pharmaceuticals on 216 Australian children. It found a louse-free rate of 67% with the non-pesticide shampoo compared with 43% in participants treated with a malathion-based medicated foam.

The authors concluded that the relative efficacy, safety and ease of use made their non-pesticide based shampoo a viable alternative to pesticide based treatment, adding “increasing resistance... has resulted in the need for alternative products”.
