‘Exciting’ new bowel cancer blood test

The genetic test, developed by Clinical Genomics, is expected to be launched commercially in Australia early next year.

Julien Wiggins, chief executive of Bowel Cancer Australia (BCA), said the announcement indicated “exciting times for the bowel cancer community”.

“We know early detection saves lives and a blood test provides another mechanism by which to do that,” he said.

“It is a real opportunity to improve survival rates for the 14,000 families who are affected each year by a bowel cancer diagnosis.

“Australia needs an additional screening option as we have one of the highest rates of bowel cancer in the world.”
