Expert recommends CV check for patients with gout
Rheumatologist Associate Professor Nicola Dalbeth, of the University of Auckland, told the ARA conference that gout was on the increase in Australia, particularly among the Indigenous population due to two key factors — diet and increasing weight.
“It has become clear in the last 5—10 years that gout is an important risk factor for CVD. Patients presenting with a first episode of gout should be assessed for cardiovascular risk and aggressively managed,” Professor Dalbeth said.
