Expert slams anti-breast screening book

Professor John Boyages, director of the Macquarie University Cancer Institute, said the Nordic Cochrane Centre, based in Copenhagen, was "not driven by the science" and should not go unchallenged.

The group, which claims trial data does not support mass breast cancer screening, has published a book aimed at the lay reader, Mammography Screening: Truth, Lies and Controversy.

The book says screening leads to overdiagnosis and accuses the scientific community of moving to stifle opposing views.
