Expert warns C. difficile deaths will rise
Professor Thomas Riley, a microbiologist and immunologist at the University of Western Australia, has called on GPs to ask for all laboratory samples taken from patients presenting with diarrhoea to be tested for C. difficile infection.
“We have seen a dramatic increase in the number of cases of C. difficile infections over the last 12 months and a dramatic increase in the number of community acquired cases,” Professor Riley said.
“We need heightened vigilance and better surveillance.”
