Experts debate CKD diagnosis guidelines

A BMJ article, written by academics from Bond University in Queensland, suggested that one in six adults have been labelled with CKD as a result of new guidelines.

It estimated that thousands of people with stage IIIA disease —defined by an eGFR of 45—59 ml/min/1.73m2 — would need to be treated to prevent one case of end stage disease.

Those classified as stage 3A without albuminuria were at highest risk of overdiagnosis and at least 30% of elderly people were misclassified
