Extreme obesity slashes lifespan

People with extreme obesity are losing years of life in direct proportion to weight gain, according to a US analysis.

Adults with high-end class III obesity die almost 14 years before people with normal weight, data from 9,500 extremely obese people and over 300,000 controls shows.

People with a BMI of 40-44.9 lose an average of 6.5 years of life, rising to 13.7 years for a BMI of 55-55.9.

The study excludes those who reported ever smoking or who had a history
