Facebook campaign boosts transplant organ donors

The social networking website Facebook collaborated with researchers to alter its Timeline platform to allow users to indicate they were an “organ donor” in the profile. When they did they were given a link to a local donor registry and a status update message was sent to friends.

The initiative led to a large spike in donor registration in all states, with some having a 20-fold increase, although this waned over time.
