Fake tan may lead to misleading skin changes: study
A research group in Sweden investigated the effects of DHA in seven patients with pigmented skin lesions, finding pigmentation that partly mimics lentigo maligna significantly more often in dermatoscopic images following DHA use. However, they could not show that DHA led to lesions appearing dysplastic or malignant.
The effect of DHA may be particularly important in teledermatology when it is not possible to see if similar pigmentation is seen outside the lesion, they said.
