Fasting diets may affect medication

In a letter to the MJA, Gina McLachlan and The-Phung To from Austin Health, Victoria, say that patients who take medication and fast each week could encounter adverse effects or therapeutic failure.

According to Ms McLachlan and Ms To, the 5:2 diet, where calorie intake is restricted to 500 calories for women and 600 for men two days a week, has been associated with some evidence for weight loss and reduced insulin
