Fertility drugs not tied to cancer risk

IVF treatment does not raise the odds of later cancer, a 30 year follow-up study finds.

Although fertility drugs increase levels of estradiol and progesterone – both implicated in the pathogenesis of breast, ovarian and uterine cancers – there is “little evidence” they increase long-term cancer risk, co-author Dr Humberto Scoccia from the University of Illinois told the annual meeting of the European Society of Human Reproduction and Embryology in Munich last month.
