Few GPs prescribing ‘complex’ hep C treatment

Only 70 GPs in Australia can prescribe the current standard of care – pegylated interferon and ribavirin – as part of shared care arrangements with specialists, according to an economic analysis of the impact of hepatitis C published last week.

The report, funded by Janssen and carried out by the Boston Consulting Group, said that among the 70, only a small number can initiate treatment and many do not even prescribe maintenance treatment, though qualified to do so.
