First seizure driving restrictions ‘appropriate’: expert

The current driving restriction of 6 months following a first seizure is warranted, says an Australian expert.

Writing in JNNP this month Perth neurologist Dr Nicholas Lawn said driving restrictions following a first seizure varied between countries and was influenced by many factors including the community perception of an acceptable level of risk for an accident - the accident risk ratio or ARR.
In Australia a six-month driving restriction is recommended following a provoked or unprovoked first seizure.
