Vigilance is needed for women at risk, including those on certain medications

OSTEOPOROSIS, a relatively common disease that is often undiagnosed until a fracture occurs, is defined by bone mineral density (BMD) ≤2.5 standard deviations below the young adult average.

The hip, wrist, spine, humerus and pelvis are the most common fracture sites. According to the Geelong Osteoporosis Study, an estimated 23% of women >50 and 43% of women >70 have the condition.
