Flares in RA: the patient knows best

Patients’ self-reports of flare in RA reliably predict radiological damage, but physician flare assessment does not, an Italian study suggests.

The retrospective analysis of 149 patients attending a rheumatology clinic in Padua revealed that patients self-reporting flares of their disease had more than three times the odds of radiological progression as those who did not.
