Funding boost for respiratory illness

More than $20 million has been given to respiratory research from a pool of $539.8 million in the latest round of NHMRC grants.

Asthma is the biggest winner, receiving $12.5 million. The top grant is $2.5 million over five years for Professor Peter Gibson’s new research centre at Newcastle University.
Another stand-out grant is $1.4 million towards the trial of an early and effective intervention for chronic cough in indigenous children.
