Gliptin PBS restrictions eased

PBS restrictions on four gliptins for treatment of type 2 diabetes will be eased from 1 April to bring them into line with those of alogliptin (Nesina), the Department of Health has announced.

The drugs linagliptin (Trajenta), saxagliptin (Onglyza), sitagliptin (Januvia) and vildagliptin (Galvus) currently have a tighter restriction than that of alogliptin, which was only listed on the PBS on 1 December 2013.

Unlike alogliptin, the current PBS criteria for the four other gliptins state that patients must have a contraindication or must not
