Gout patients increasingly hospitalised

The number of Australians being hospitalised for gout has risen considerably, research shows.

Hospital admissions with a principal diagnosis of gout rose steadily from 2,126 patients in 2009 to nearly 3,000 in 2014 - an increase of 6% per year.

This marks “a strong trend for rising gout admissions as a proportion of the Australian population”, write the authors from the University of
